Rayon fabric is a soft and relaxed fabric that absorbs well and has few static and pilling problems. Rayon fabric can have harms with shrinking. There are both dry clean only and washable rayon fabric on the market today. The only difference in these rayon fabrics is their concluding stages. Watch care labels intimately to know what type your clothing is. Although rayon fabric has several characteristics that make it a great fabric, it can also be simply ruined by disregarding care labels.
The result of efforts to generate a cheaper alternate for the precious and expensive silk fiber was rayon fabric, the first manufactured fiber. Invented in 1884 in France, it was first manufactured for profitable uses in 1910 by Avtex Fibers Inc. in the United States. At first rayon fabric was sold as artificial silk. Though, manufacturers thought that the word artificial was not very appealing from a marketing position. A countrywide contest was held to find the suitable name.
Rayon fabric is derived from a French word meaning rays of light. The committee members settled on rayon fabric as the official name. In 1924 the official name rayon was adopted by the industry. Although rayon fabric never replaced silk as first predictable manufacturers have tried and perfected various methods of production. It is currently produced in the United States and in such countries as Japan and Russia.
Production:
Even though rayon fabric is measured a manufactured fiber, it is made from tree cellulose. The basic procedure of creating rayon fabric is treating and dissolving cellulose in a soda solution and passing it through tiny holes into a chemical bath which forms the fibers. The type of rayon fabric produced is named by the procedure which was used to produce it. Viscose is one of the earliest and most usually used production methods now.
